B.B. Warfield

Princeton theologian who authored the definitive modern defense of biblical inerrancy

Benjamin Breckinridge Warfield was the last great intellectual titan of Old Princeton Theology, serving as professor of didactic and polemic theology from 1887 until his death in 1921. He authored the definitive evangelical defense of the verbal plenary inspiration and inerrancy of Scripture (notably in his 1881 article with A.A. Hodge and *The Inspiration and Authority of the Bible*), and defended cessationism in *Counterfeit Miracles* (1918).

Geographical Center: Princeton, New Jersey

Historical Context & Significance

Warfield combined formidable exegesis with razor-sharp philosophical precision, providing the intellectual arsenal that later birthed the Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy.
