Creation & the Garden of Eden
Cosmology, Primeval History, and the Origins of Humanity in Genesis 1–3
The biblical account of Creation opens in Genesis 1:1 as God brings order, light, and life out of chaos over six days, culminating in the creation of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.
The Six Days of Creation & Sabbath Rest
In Genesis 1:1 , God creates the heavens and the earth, separating light from darkness, the waters above from the waters below, and dry land from the seas. On the sixth day ( Genesis 1:26 , Genesis 2:19 ), Adam is formed from the dust of the ground and placed in Eden to tend and keep the sanctuary-garden before the seventh-day Sabbath rest ( Genesis 2:2 ).
Geography of Eden & the Four Rivers
Genesis 2:10 describes a river flowing out of Eden to water the garden and dividing into four headwaters: Pishon (near Havilah ), Gihon (near Cush ), Hiddekel ( Tigris , flowing east of Assyria ), and Euphrates . The Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil stood at the center of the garden, later guarded by cherubim ( Genesis 3:24 ) whose imagery is echoed in the Ark of the Covenant and Wilderness Tabernacle .
Primeval Lineage from Adam to Seth
Following the expulsion from Eden , Eve bore Cain and Abel ( Genesis 4:1 , Genesis 4:2 ), and later Seth ( Genesis 4:25 , Genesis 5:3 ), through whom the Messianic Line continues down to Enosh , Kenan , Mahalalel , Jared , Enoch , Methuselah , Lamech , and Noah ( 1 Chronicles 1:1 , Luke 3:38 ).
